Telstra Competition

The ACCC’s annual report on competition in the telecommunications industry was tabled in the Federal Parliament recently.

The report shows that competition in the telecommunications industry continued to grow in the past twelve months. Key features of the report included the decline of high-margin voice revenues across the industry as substitution occurred between fixed and mobile segments and within the fixed line segment.

There was also substantial growth in the broadband market where substantial growth (more than 100%) occurred in each of the four consecutive quarters of in the July 1004 to June 2005 period. This translates into more than 3.1 million broadband users in Australia.
